cracker barrel testing biggest menu changes

Since the beginning of 2024, Cracker Barrel has seen many changes in prices going up, some restaurants closing, and remodeling. Now, they are shaking things up even more with big updates to their classic country-themed menu.

Recently, Cracker Barrel revealed details about their biggest menu revamp ever. Back in February, they quietly started testing a new menu in a few stores, but they only said a little about it now.

The updated menu is now at 14 Cracker Barrel restaurants across Texas until August 5. You can find it in cities like Abilene, Allen, Amarillo, Arlington, Benbrook, Cypress, Houston, Kingwood, Lubbock, Midland, Weatherford, and Wichita Falls.

According to a press release on June 25, Cracker Barrel introduced about 20 new items as part of this Texas-sized test. They have also made the menu easier to read and cut down on the complexity of recipes to help their staff.

Various New Dishes at Cracker Barrel

Cracker Barrel recently announced some exciting new dishes, although they still need to reveal all 20. They did highlight five standout items:

  1. Hashbrown Casserole Shepherd’s Pie (1,590 calories)

This hearty dish features slow-simmered pot roast cooked in a savory sauce with onions, celery, carrots, and peas. It’s topped with a crispy crust made from hashbrown casserole and a dollop of sour cream. You can choose to pair it with either hand-rolled buttermilk biscuits or cornbread muffins for a comforting meal.

  1. Green Chile Cornbread (1,280 calories)

A twist on traditional cornbread, this version is infused with cheesy goodness and a kick of green chile flavor. It’s lightly drizzled with honey and served with whipped butter on top, adding a sweet and savory touch to your dining experience.

  1. Banana Pudding

A beloved Southern dessert, Cracker Barrel’s banana pudding features layers of creamy pudding with slices of banana, vanilla wafers for a bit of crunch, and a generous topping of whipped cream. A drizzle of caramel sauce adds sweetness to this comforting treat.

  1. Cinnamon Bread French Toast (1,290 calories)

This indulgent breakfast dish starts with cinnamon streusel bread dipped in a sweet batter and griddled to golden perfection. It’s then topped with a decadent cream cheese icing and served alongside two eggs cooked your way and your choice of bacon or sausage. Perfect for those who love a sweet and savory breakfast combination.

Cracker Barrel Introduces New Daily Specials in Menu

Cracker Barrel is also adding new Daily Specials as part of their menu revamp. These popular items are only available on certain days of the week:

  • Southern BBQ Ribs (770 calories): Available only on Saturdays.
  • Chicken n’ Rice (510 calories): Available only on Sundays.
  • Lemon Pepper Trout n’ Turnip Greens (330 calories): Available only on Mondays.

These new options give you more delicious choices to enjoy throughout the week.

“For nearly 55 years, guests have loved Cracker Barrel for its authentic, homestyle cooking. That tradition isn’t changing, but now there’s even more flavor and easier menu navigation,” said Cammie Spillyards-Schaefer, Senior Vice President of Operations.

We are excited for the Texas community to be the first to try our new dishes like Chicken n’ Rice and Green Chile Cornbread. We look forward to getting feedback from our guests and employees on these new items.

Although these new options are only available in Texas for now, Cracker Barrel often tests new items in select locations before deciding to launch them nationwide. So, fans outside Texas can hope for a wider rollout in the future.

This menu test is part of a larger transformation at Cracker Barrel. The chain announced a “strategic transformation initiative” in late 2023 to boost business after seeing fewer customer visits. Besides enhancing the menu, this initiative includes upgrading employee training programs and improving the guest experience with changes to store design and atmosphere.
